Values Of Doctrines & Indwelling Holy Spirit

How important is to understand Christian Doctrines for reaching eternity?

The English word, “doctrine,” comes from the Latin word “doctrina”. It can be defined as, “teaching or instruction.” Christian doctrine simply means the beliefs of Christians. A Christian doctrine is what the entire Bible has to say on one particular subject. Therefore, we speak of such things as the “doctrine” of Christ, the “doctrine” of God, and the “doctrine” of the church. This refers to what Christians believe about these subjects based upon the teaching of the Bible.

As we study the new testament, there are over forty New Testament references to Christian doctrine, or Christian teaching. Christian doctrine consists of the teachings of Jesus Christ, as found in the four gospels, as well as the teachings about Jesus Christ, which are found in the remainder of the New Testament (few ref: Mathew 7:28-29, John 7:16-17, Acts 2:42, Acts 25-28 -KJV).

We are living in a world where false christian doctrines are more prevalent than the true gospel and adulterated sermons have been appreciated widely even in our church pulpits. To an extent, electronic and social media have its role to make confusion among believers with these adulterated doctrines. Without knowing the truth, we may easily get influenced and convinced by these infectious modes of communications and false sermons. There are millions of videos and audios of Christian sermons being populated and being shared over these electronic platforms and unfortunately, most of these sermons carry false gospel.  If you don’t know what the Bible is and about its teachings/doctrines, you can be easily deceived by these false preachers.

We are running our race along with millions of confused believers and pastors!! Confused as they were not knowing what these Christian Doctrines are. Don’t get surprised if you see some popular gospel preachers of today go out from the race on your way ahead, don’t be worried as you come across many fallen warriors in this battlefield – all because of not knowing the true doctrines and the true Gospel.

In the earlier Christian churches, it was mandatory to read, understand and teach the Christian doctrines to all believers, which is very rare today. Jesus Christ, Apostles and early church gave most priority for Christian teachings and doctrines. Right belief is essential for right living. If we get our doctrine wrong, then our Christian life will be troublesome and definitely it will not withstand troubles and temptations. When we get our doctrine right, then all other things will fall into place.

In Matthew 22:29 Jesus is telling Sadducees as “You are mistaken, not understanding the Scriptures nor the power of God.” If we don’t know about the doctrines, there is a high chance of misinterpreting the Bible and the Power of God, which is very common today. Unfortunately to say this, misinterpreting Scriptures is widely spread like a cancer. Any verse from the Bible, if taken and interpreted as they like!! Some of them are quite “smart” to use it as the best tool for brainwashing the audience and stealing their attention towards the false doctrines!!

At the present situation and as the religionism among Christians are dominant, one should understand the Christian doctrines directly from the Bible by meditating the Word of God on a daily basis with the help of the Holy Spirit. Once you start meditating the Bible, God will fill you with the knowledge and spiritual wisdom of understanding about right and wrong.  Let me try to scribble few important points:

  • Understanding the doctrines illuminates your spiritual path to eternity
  • Understanding the doctrines will protects you from twisted truths
  • Understanding the doctrines amplifies your mission in Christ
  • Understanding the doctrines will remind you to lead holy life
  • Understanding the doctrines deepens your devotion to Christ

Role of Holy Spirit in daily walk

Role of the Holy Spirit can be explained in a single sentence as “No Christian will remain Christian without the companionship of the Holy Spirit”. We are living in a corrupted spiritual era where the word “Holy Spirit” and His actions were misinterpreted and used for personal benefits. Unfortunately most of us may have very wrong ideas and understanding about the Holy Spirit. False preachers and false prophets bewitched and poisoned an entire generation in our era. Still they are prevalent and their teachings are deviating many from the Kingdom of God.

Today we know the Holy Spirit as it makes people “jump”, “dance”, “laugh”, “cry”, “roll” or utter some “meaningless words”!! We limited “Anointing of the Holy Spirit” into uttering “weird sounds” on some occasions… Stand with Apostle Paul as he asks the Church of Galatians. “You foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you?” (Galatians 3:1). As in our time, Galatians also had the wrong idea about the Holy Spirit. How did it all happen? They went away from the Scriptures and allowed false preachers among them. The same mistake which we make today. We don’t have time to spend with the Holy Bible, but have enough time to hear plenty of sermons from the media and have time to spend on social media, by criticizing and making arguments with others, thinking it is spirituality!! LET US COME BACK TO SCRIPTURES AND DOCTRINES OF CHRIST

Galatians, they understood the role that the Spirit played in their conversion, but they were missing out on His role as Helper in the ongoing life of a believer. Many Christians today get caught in the same trap as the Galatians: we forget why the Holy Spirit is so important. If we want to avoid being “foolish Galatians,” we need to respond to the Holy Spirit and the way he moves in our lives. If you are reading this article today, it is God’s call to come back to Scriptures.

Why is the Holy Spirit so important for every Christian?

1. Holy Spirit help you to lead a HOLY LIFE- Holy life is the most important point in the race of the run towards eternity. Every Christian should keep your mind, body and spirit in holiness. There is no shortcut for reaching eternity without leading a holy life and it is impossible to lead a Holy life without the help of the Holy Spirit.

We can act holy in our appearance and dressing, but the question is how long we manage to do the drama? We may fool others with these dramas for sometime, but how will you justify it before God?

We can utter some unclear words in our gatherings and can act like we are filled with the Holy Spirit and as soon as we finish the meeting, what are our thoughts? What do we say about our brothers and sisters? How do we look at each other? How do we treat co-brother/sister in Christ?

The Holy Spirit will purify our thought process, way of our daily life, and give us a renewed heart and mind, which may not bother about the world and its evil attractions. Definitely, with the help of the Holy Spirit, you can live as a SAINT and can lead a blameless life.

Galatians 5:16-21 “So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want”.

2. Character of Christ will be manifested with help of the Holy Spirit- You will be able to grow in Christ only with the help of the Holy Spirit. It is through Him that the character of Christ is revealed in you: “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law… . Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit” (Galatians 5:22-23, 25).

Check yourself for these qualities and realize whether you are living in the Holy Spirit or not. You can recognize one, whether that person is in Christ and lives in the Holy Spirit, by these qualities of their life.

3. Holy Spirit will guide you in the truth of Jesus Christ-  In John 16:13-14, Jesus says “But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. He will glorify me because it is from me that he will receive what he will make known to you.” The Holy Spirit will open your ears towards Christ and will guide you till you reach your eternal adobe. You can literally start listening to your heavenly father as you start meditating the Word of God.

4. Holy Spirit directs your steps- The Holy Spirit not only speaks the words of Jesus to you, but he actually is the one who leads and directs your steps into the abundant life that Jesus promised. Paul wrote, “You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit…. And if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you” (Romans 8:9, 11).

5. Holy Spirit empowers you- In Acts Chapter 2 onwards we can see how the Holy Spirit empowered the lives of Apostles. Few days before, all of them were scared and sitting together in a closed room. As the Holy Spirit took control over them, they all were standing bold before multitudes, testifying fearlessly about Jesus and proclaiming the Gospel before temple priests and authorities.

The Holy Spirit manifests with the spiritual gifts “Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues. All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and He distributes them to each one, just as He determines” (1 Corinthians 12:7-11).

6. The Holy Spirit Guarantees your Hope of Eternity- The Holy Spirit is also important because he is the guarantee of your inheritance of eternal life. “When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession” (Ephesians 1:13-14). Satan wants to destroy your hope and tries to get you to doubt your Savior’s love. But the Spirit’s leading, teaching, gifting, and proclaiming is proof that you belong to God forever.

So, don’t let anyone deceive you, walk with the Holy Spirit and be a living example of Christ.

It is important to understand and practice Christian doctrines to reach eternity. Understanding Christian Doctrine is only possible by the help of Holy Spirit.
